LTO Demerit Points System & Driver’s Reorientation Course
Understand how traffic violations may add demerit points to your driver’s license record, what the point classifications mean, and how accumulated points can affect license renewal.
Light Violation
A traffic offense classified as light under the applicable LTO demerit point schedule.
Less Grave Violation
A more serious traffic offense assigned three demerit points under the published rules.
Grave Violation
A serious offense classified as grave under the applicable LTO demerit point schedule.
How Demerit Points Work
Traffic Violation Is Recorded
Demerit points may be recorded when an apprehension is admitted, uncontested after the permitted period, or resolved against the driver following adjudication.
Points Are Accumulated
Points accumulate during the applicable driver’s license validity period. Multiple violations in one apprehension may be assessed separately.
Higher Points Mean More Requirements
Accumulated points may affect license renewal, additional license codes and other licensing privileges.
Verify Your Official Record
Check any demerit point information available through authorized LTO services. If a record appears incorrect, contact LTO or the responsible issuing authority.
Demerit Points & Renewal Requirements
Below the DRC Threshold
The five-point DRC renewal threshold has not been reached. Other licensing requirements or penalties may still apply.
Driver’s Reorientation Course
Complete the required Driver’s Reorientation Course before renewing the driver’s license.
DRC & Theoretical Examination
Additional renewal requirements apply, including the DRC and a theoretical examination. Higher-point cases may involve further restrictions.

Traffic Violations & Payments Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about LTO traffic violations, fine payments, apprehension records, demerit points, disputed tickets, and payment confirmation.
1. How can I check traffic violations through LTMS?
Sign in to the official LTMS Portal and review any violation-related service or record available to your account. The exact information shown depends on the recorded case and available services.
2. Does LTMS show every traffic violation?
No. A ticket issued by an LGU, MMDA, or another authority may not appear in LTMS. Check with the issuing agency when a record is missing.
3. Can I pay traffic fines online?
Some eligible violations may offer electronic payment through authorized channels. Online payment availability depends on the issuing authority and status of the case.
4. Can I pay an LGU or MMDA ticket through LTMS?
Not necessarily. Follow the official payment or settlement instructions issued by the responsible enforcement authority. Do not assume that every ticket is payable through LTMS.
5. What should I do if my fine amount is incorrect?
Check the offense details and assessment with the issuing authority. Request an explanation or correction using the official process before making payment.
6. How do I contest a traffic violation?
Follow the applicable adjudication or contesting procedure of the issuing agency within its deadline. Keep the ticket, relevant evidence and official correspondence.
7. What are driver’s license demerit points?
Demerit points are assigned under applicable LTO rules for recorded traffic violations. Published categories include 1 point for light, 3 points for less grave and 5 points for grave violations.
8. Can demerit points affect license renewal?
Yes. Accumulated points may result in additional renewal requirements, such as the Driver’s Reorientation Course and, for certain point totals, a theoretical examination.
9. What should I do if payment is still pending?
Check your payment reference, transaction confirmation and official case status. Contact the responsible payment provider or agency if the payment has not been reflected. Avoid paying twice.
10. How can I get my payment receipt?
Follow the receipt instructions of the authorized payment channel. Check your registered email and available transaction records. Contact the responsible office if the receipt is missing.
11. Does paying a fine automatically remove demerit points?
No. Payment settlement and demerit-point records are separate matters. Paying a fine does not automatically erase validly recorded points or other enforcement consequences.
12. Who should I contact about an incorrect violation record?
Contact the issuing authority or official LTO support, depending on the record involved. Prepare your ticket reference and supporting evidence for verification.
